When comparing cycling holidays in Granada and the Alpujarras, look beyond daily kilometres. Elevation, surfaces and the support included matter just as much. A clear proposal should explain how the stages connect, where you stay and what happens if you need to change a day’s riding.
Should I choose self-guided, guided or supported cycling?
On a self-guided holiday, you ride independently using the agreed route information. A guided programme includes an accompanying professional as specified in the itinerary. Support services such as luggage transport and private transfers should be itemised separately. Self-guided does not automatically include every support service or a vehicle following each stage.
How far should we ride each day?
Distance alone is a poor measure of difficulty. A short stage with climbing and uneven surfaces can be more demanding than a longer, flatter ride. Ask for daily distance, elevation gain, surface type and indicative riding time before booking.
For a leisurely programme, we can consider stages around 40–45 km or less, depending on the route and the group’s ability. This is a planning reference, not a fixed promise for every itinerary. Transfers can connect destinations without turning every journey into a cycling stage.
Is an e-bike the right choice?
The answer depends on your experience, fitness and preferences. An e-bike assists your pedalling, but you still need the handling, braking and riding skills required by the terrain. Battery range depends on climbing, assistance settings, load and route conditions.
Share each rider’s height and experience. Confirm bike category, sizing, accessories, charging arrangements and handover conditions. If you bring your own bike, agree transport and support requirements in advance.
Are luggage transfers daily?
Not necessarily. Confirm transfer frequency, weight limits, number of bags and collection points in writing. A programme may combine light luggage with suitcase movements on selected days. Ask what you need to carry during the ride and which items should remain accessible.
What happens if I have a mechanical problem or cannot finish?
Before departure, you should know your support contact, operating hours, reporting procedure and any charges that may apply to a collection. Ask which incidents are covered and what alternatives are available if the weather changes or you need a shorter day. Agreed support should not be confused with an immediate rescue service at every point on the route.
How many nights should we book?
A three-night escape, a four-night programme and a seven-night journey allow different travel rhythms. The number of nights does not automatically equal the number of cycling days. Check arrival and departure arrangements, rest time and any cultural visits alongside the riding stages.
When comparing accommodation, consider its position on the route, bike storage and charging arrangements, meal plans and room type. Charming properties and potential upgrades are subject to availability and should be confirmed for your dates.
What should a travel agency request?
Ask for a day-by-day itinerary, inclusions and exclusions, reservation and cancellation terms, assistance arrangements and a clear allocation of responsibilities. Confirm the commercial model and applicable rates before presenting the programme to your client. Each operation’s agreed conditions should be documented.
